TZUSOO screens her "The Cyborg Manifesto(2021)" on a Media Cloud screen, alongside work from her neon sign series Dalle’s Aimy, which was created with the use of artificial intelligence. The "Dalle’s Aimy" series visualizes the competition between human beings and AI over generation or creation. TZUSOO created the virtual influencer character Aimy at the request of a record company; afterward, she observed the different spinoff phenomena that emerged from Aimy’s activities in the virtual world. Finally, she decided to enter the characters and keywords she had considered while developing the Aimy character as inputs in a generative AI program. The generative AI program DALL·E 2 suggested new images of Aimy on this basis. In some respects, the DALL·E 2’s Aimys surpassed the one created by the artist—presenting images that were “more Aimy than Aimy.” Looking at the different Aimys that the AI shared, TZUSOO had a troubling sense of the prospects of the competition with AI. "Dalle’s Aimy" raises questions about the artist’s role in an era that has witnessed advancements in generative AI. Juxtaposing DALL·E 2’s different version of Aimy with the neon sign as a 19th-century invention, these works illustrate a new form of art that leaves behind the artist’s conventional hands. The luminous tears that Aimy shed reflect meanings of both liberation and loss, serving as rays of “generation” that transcend the differences between human beings and AI.
